The Front Lines

The Front Lines Monument

Curator: Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)

Theme: The Front Lines

Background:

Modern warfare requires the communication of friendly forces that are often separated by vast distances, so that support might be quickly brought to confront their foe. Early warfare saw close combat as close as hand-to-hand. The mix of these scenarios provides a perspective of great and small distance separating today's combatants, with evermore lethal weapons and awareness, regardless of proximity. Front-line warriors bear the greatest burden of intensity. They might receive support from very long distances, but they take the ground upon which the battle occurs. They suffer the greater amount of pain. They must endure unspeakable destruction.
